LifeFund Support Initiative was founded in 2018 and was duly registered as a corporate trustee with the Nigerian Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in March 2020. LifeFund was founded by Balogun Mariam while working in a tertiary hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. She identified the burden of inadequate funding of the Nigerian healthcare sector that consequently leads to poverty, induced by huge out-of-pocket medical expenses of an average patient at the hospital.
The organization exists to cater to underserved patients and communities by providing access to quality and affordable healthcare. She carries out her mission along 3 major themes – awareness, philanthropy and advocacy. LifeFund was founded to ensure equitable healthcare by protecting the poor (through mobilization of financial resources), pooling risks, and ensuring healthcare prepayment service (e.g social insurance) are viable.
